The social networking website Facebook was founded by Mark Zukerburg while he was a student at Harvard University.
It was originally called the facebook and was restricted to the students that attended Harvard.
That it was then extended to colleges in the Boston area and then all University students and finally all people aged over 13.
Facebook currently has over 150 million users.
In September 2007, Microsoft approached Facebook, proposing an investment in return for a 5% stake in the company, offering an estimated $300–500 million.
In the October of 2007 Microsoft announced it had purchased a 1.6% share of facebook for $246 million. Over the years facebook has attracted much controversy and had been blocked in Syria and Iran.
