A boy throwing a temper tantrum threw his teddy bear over a cliff, which resulted in a hillside rescue of his parents.
A teddy bear thrown in a temper tantrum turned into a full-scale search-and-rescue operation after the parents tried to retrieve the stuffed animal, but slipped down a steep Glendale hillside and needed to be rescued.
A 10-year-old boy named Soski threw his stuffed animal over a guardrail and down a hillside in the midst of a tantrum around 9 p.m. on Nolan Avenue near McGinn Drive.
"I threw my teddy bear, and then my mom went down to get it, but then she slipped," Soski said.
The child's father, Harry, went to help his wife, but he also slipped on the slick hillside. The couple found themselves 80 feet down the rain-slicked hillside, in need of help.
"We could not climb up because it was very slippery," Harry said, adding that he and his wife were worried because they had left their son alone atop the hill.
Soski ran to a neighbor's house, and they called 911.
Arriving firefighters then used ropes to pull the man and woman up to safety, and neither parent was hurt.

Did you know that Car dealers try to survive as economy, sales drop
NEW ORLEANS – At this year's version of the National Automobile Dealers Association convention, survival has passed maximizing profits as the focus of the annual event.
So as thousands of dealers from across the U.S. gathered Saturday in New Orleans, they were greeted by workshops entitled "Selling up in a down economy: Taking the bull by the horns" and "Tough times, tougher dealers: Saving your dealership's assets."
By almost all accounts, 2009 will be among the toughest years ever faced by the roughly 20,000 new car dealerships in the U.S., with sales of cars and lightweight trucks projected to shrink by as much as 6 million vehicles from the 16.1 million sold as recently as 2007. Sales last year were 13.2 million, down 18 percent from 2007, and December sales ran at an annual rate of around 10 million. Last year's sales were the worst in 26 years.
The workshops, said convention Chairman Jeff Carlson, are designed to help dealers cope with 2009 and make it to the day when the auto market bounces back.
"It's our charge to serve the dealers and to help them do everything that they can to remain viable," said Carlson, who runs two Ford Motor Co. dealerships in Colorado.

Baby’s phone call from indoor marijuana farm lands dad in jail
A baby playing with a telephone inadvertently called police to his house in westernmost Canada, and to his "very surprised" father’s marijuana growing operation inside, police said Wednesday.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to an emergency 911 call in which the caller hung up without saying a word, Const. Janelle Canning told AFP.
The officers entered the White Rock residence, after knocks at the door went unanswered, she said.
"The father was very surprised to see us and insisted he hadn’t called police," she said. "The officers then observed his 11-month old child playing with a cordless phone, pressing buttons randomly."
The mystery caller was identified, she said. "It appears the baby called us."
During a routine search of the house, the officers also uncovered 500 marijuana plants in two locked rooms on the main floor.
The 29-year-old father was arrested and faces charges of production of a controlled substance and mischief. He is to appear in court in April.
The baby boy was removed from the home by the Ministry of Children and Family, and was later released into his mother’s custody.

Man sues Akron strip club for injury
Yusuf Evans says he still bears the pain of his first visit to an Akron strip club.
He says he got the boot — right in the nose, from the wicked flick of a dancer's foot.
It happened, he said, as he sat near the stage with friends inside the XTC nightclub on Brittain Road.
Evans, 37, has filed a lawsuit against the club and an unnamed dancer. He is seeking more than $25,000 for injuries he claims he suffered during his visit a year ago. The case has been assigned to Summit County Common Pleas Judge Brenda Burnham Unruh.
Representatives of the club did not respond to a request for an interview.
''I got injured and I shouldn't have gotten injured just going out and trying to show somebody a good time,'' Evans said in a phone interview. ''I have to live with this the rest of my life probably.''
Evans said he doesn't normally frequent strip clubs, but he made an exception when an out-of-town cousin visited Akron. He said he wanted to be hospitable to his guest and another friend.
The three men were seated near the dance stage while a stripper nicknamed ''Tiara'' performed her routine. The dance included a demonstrative kick, which Evans said caused the stripper's boot to fly off her foot.
Evans said he never saw the boot coming. The thick-heeledshoe, similar to the platform style worn in the 1970s, smacked him squarely in the face.
He said he was treated at a local hospital for injuries to his nose. Doctors have recommended surgery.
''That was my first time ever there. Isn't that crazy?'' he said. ''My nose got chipped on one side and I constantly lose the ability to breathe out of one nostril; the passageway gets clogged up.''
The lawsuit claims XTC management allowed improper attire to be used by their dancers. The dancers are required ''to wear certain articles of clothing'' and ''actively participate in stage dances'' and that during these routines, ''the stage becomes a hazardous area.''
Evans' attorney, John Brooks Cameron of Medina, could not be reached for additional comment.
