A 13-year-old girl died sledding when her snow tube hit a tree at a golf course outside New York City, police confirmed to FOXNews.com.
The girl was sliding down a snow-covered hill in an inflatable tube with another girl Monday when they slammed into a tree at the Philip J. Rotella Golf Course in Haverstraw, N.Y.
Haverstraw Police identified the 13-year-old victim as Aleyris Martinez, an eighth-grader and resident of West Haverstraw.
The teen went into cardiac arrest after the crash, The Journal News reported. Paramedics, who were called about 2 p.m., treated her at the scene and rushed her to a hospital in Suffern, but doctors couldn't save her.
"She was unconscious and in very grave condition when we got there," Ray Florida, executive director of Rockland Paramedic Services, told the News.
The other girl suffered severe head and facial injuries. The accident happened on a particularly steep slope at the golf course that is a popular area for sledding.
